Barbers 2 Braid

Barbers To Braid is geared towards changing Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Boards Section 4709.01 (A)(2) which states "The practice of barbering does not include the practice of natural hair styling." (A)(2)(H) states "The practice of natural hair styling means work done for a fee or other form of compensation, by any person , utilizing techniques performed by hand that result in tension on the hair roots such as twisting, wrapping, weaving, extending, locking or braiding of the hair and which work does not include the application of dyes, reactive chemicals or other preparations to alter the color or to straighten, curl, or alter the structure of the hair." (A)(2)(I) states "Braiding means intertwining the hair in a systematic motion to create patterns in a three-dimensional form, inverting the hair against the scalp along part of a straight or curved row of intertwined hair, or twisting the hair in a systematic motion, and includes extending the hair with natural or synthetic hair fibers." These definitions/laws were revised September 29,1999. The Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Boards were consolidated from two separate boards on January 21,2018. These laws are no longer adequately adjusted for the merger. With braids and locs being the most natural form of styling textured hair these laws should be revised due to barbers being able to perform more complex styling (i.e. permanent waving, relaxers and color all requiring chemicals).
